Bringing instant privacy to a modern central London office with Silen pods

When a major financial institution set out to design its new London office, the goal was clear: move away from rigid, traditional desks and create a flexible, human-centered workspace for nearly 1,000 employees. Spanning four and a half floors with views over Tower Bridge, the space seamlessly mixes open-plan areas with places to focus and gather.

The vision & layout

Designed by Kerry Sharp alongside Kinetic Workplace, the office balances an industrial look with warm, cozy touches — black mesh frames and gantries paired with copper lighting, soft fabrics, and greenery. The layout breaks away from static rows of desks, featuring sunken hot-desking zones, elevated trading areas, and a kitchen opening onto a sun terrace overlooking the River Thames.

The challenge

An open floor plan built around hot-desking created a clear bottleneck: a lack of small, acoustically sound spaces for spontaneous calls and quick meetings. Without dedicated quiet spots, larger meeting rooms were constantly being tied up for small discussions.

The solution

To solve the acoustic challenge, Marnie Davies from Silen's UK reseller, Welltek Group, collaborated directly with the lead designer and build team to manage the entire acoustic strategy. Rather than just dropping off products, Marnie consulted on the exact needs of the workspace and oversaw the full integration of the pods from start to finish.
They strategically placed three versatile pod sizes directly into the main work areas:

The result

The pods are in constant use and have become a favorite solution for "away from desk" work. They've successfully taken the pressure off larger meeting rooms while giving the workspace long-term flexibility for future layout changes.
